Purpose: The Elizabeth Chamber of Commerce is organized on behalf of its members to provide the economic growth and welfare of the business community contributing to the quality of life in the Elizabeth area.

History: The chamber was organized in 1986 with 30 members. Present membership is 80.

Accomplishments and Continuing Projects: Installed a Veterans' Memorial, purchased flags for along Rt. 20 for display on patriotic holidays and special events, purchased welcome banners for the light poles, purchased a caboose for placement near the Great Western Train Depot museum (now on the historic register), organized the Apple River Fort Board in conjunction with the Galena Rotary club to rebuild the Apple River Fort, participated in "Make A Difference Day", purchased wreaths for Christmas decorations hand made by Don Fischer, ordered and helped hang greens for store Christmas decorations, sponsored judging of houses decorated for the holidays, organized the Christmas in the Village Christmas Walk, organized the annual Spring Fling, participated in the Elizabeth Fair with a float and Cow Pie Lottery, sponsored the annual Ride the Ups and Downs Bicycle Ride, conducted programs on Veterans Day, printed Welcome to Elizabeth brochures, planned and conducted the annual Hobo Hap'nin', designed placemats for distribution to local restaurants and used at the Chicken Dinner during Spring Fling, and prepared and distributed welcome folders to new businesses.

Meetings:  Meetings are held once a month on the first Wednesday of the month.  The meetings are held at 5:30 p.m. at the Welcome Inn.
