Fort Days June 26–28, 2008

On this weekend we ask you to attack (visit) our fort.  Blackhawk did!  Join us in celebrating the bravery and the legend of the three Elizabeths who heroically defended the fort against a savage attack by Blackhawk and 200 of his best warriors.  It is suggested that Elizabeth was named for the Elizabeths that demonstrated courage and true grit in the face of possible death.  The Apple River Fort state historic site will offer many entertaining and educational events throughout the three-day event.  For more details about the fort activities, go to www.appleriverfort.org.

In our Main Street business district you will be able to visit our artist’s shops, enjoy special sales in our retail shops, enjoy backyard-style grilled sandwiches, experience our restaurants and pubs and participate in the special attractions on the sidewalks. The world famous “Church Ladies” bake goods will be on sale.  Get there early because they usually run out early in the day.

Gathering of Elizabeths June 26–28, 2008

If your name or that of any family member or friend of the family has Elizabeth in it, plan to bring your family and friends to join the fun in Elizabeth, Illinois, the heart of beautiful Jo Daviess County as we attempt to beat the World Record for the most persons with Elizabeth as part of their name.  Be a part of history by being one of those Elizabeths whose name will be on the list of this world record! While you help make history you can help celebrate the courage of the Elizabeths who helped forge the beginnings of Elizabeth.  Plan to enjoy all that Elizabeth, Galena and all of historic and beautiful Jo Daviess County has to offer.  Elizabeth is rich with the history of Blackhawk, our own pioneer Elizabeths and lead mining.  Galena is all about General Grant, lead mining, the Civil War, stirring scenery and phenomenal architecture.  The surrounding Jo Daviess County is known for its breath–taking vistas and rich lore.

Fall’n for Fun October 10 & 11, 2008

It seems that almost everyone comes to Jo Daviess County in October and most visit on “Craft Fair” weekend. The Village of Elizabeth and the Elizabeth Chamber of Commerce will offer fun ol’ fashioned attractions for people taking a few minutes to visit our town on the “past” lane.  The craft fairs are wonderful and should not be missed.  But also take a moment to relax and unwind by stopping, shopping and strolling the quaint businesses of Elizabeth.

Veterans Day November 11, 2008

The Elizabeth Chamber of Commerce understands that we owe our veterans a great debt of gratitude for our freedom to practice commerce, worship as we wish, and to raise our families in freedom. To show our appreciation, we feel it is our honor to be able to pay homage to our veterans. We do this at our Veterans Memorial at 11:00 am on the eleventh month and the eleventh day. Please join us. We do not want to ever forget, and I am sure you feel the same way.

Christmas in the Village December 13, 2008

There is no easier way to be filled with the spirit of the season than to shop the “past” lane in Elizabeth on Saturday, December 13. Shop our shops while Christmas music plays on the streets.  Sign up for our annual Christmas Tree raffles.  Many businesses will have Christmas trees that are decorated with great prizes and gifts.  You get a chance to purchase raffle tickets to win each of these trees. Our “Church Ladies” will be offering some bakery goods that will make you fondly think of your grandmother.  Our local shops will have great specials for you to take advantage of, greet you with a “Merry Christmas” and serve up a big “thank you” as you leave. Enjoy the same Christmas shopping feeling that your grandparents experienced.
