Ride the Ups and Downs is a 1-day tour, not a race, of beautiful northwestern Illinois, an area untouched by glaciers. You’ll be riding on the scenic, hilly Illinois backroads of Jo Daviess County – 22/31/46/60-mile routes on blacktop and packed gravel roads.

• Wear a helmet!
• Wear appropriate clothing.
• Bring a bicycle that is in good mechanical condition.
• Be prepared for hills.

 Elizabeth, Illinois

Registration: Elizabeth Community Building, West Edge of Elizabeth, Rt 20, between 7:30am-9am. Telephone no. on day of ride – 815-858-9837.

Time: Riders must begin between 8-9am.

Fee: $15 by April 27; $20.00 after. Fee includes well-marked color-coded maps, sag service, snacks on the route, plus food and drink coupons to be used in local establishments following the ride. T-shirts may be ordered for $10.00, but must be ordered in advance.

 


Lodging Information

It is essential to make room reservations in advance, as this is a tourist area. Just call the Galena/Jo Daviess county Convention and Visitors Bureau, 800-747-9377, between 9am and 5pm. They will also be happy to send you the Visitors Guide. Jo Daviess County has lots of unique places to stay – B&B’s, hotel, motels, and resorts. There are also state parks in the area for camping.

Participate in Elizabeth’s Annual Spring Fling on day of ride. Craft and Food Fair – Sidewalk Sales – Library Book sales – Walk to Apple River Fort – visit Railroad Museum – Petting Zoo and other stuff for kids in downtown Elizabeth. Chicken dinner at community Building from 4:00-8:00pm. Tickets are $6.00 (adults) and $3.00(children) for the Chicken dinner.
